What is Benzinga Pro?

Benzinga Pro is a financial news and research platform built around a live newsfeed, audio squawk and tools for monitoring stocks. It brings headlines, price activity and company information into a workspace that can be configured around the instruments a trader follows.

Its clearest use case is understanding what may be driving a stock’s activity. A sharp price move is easy to notice on a chart; identifying whether it follows earnings, an analyst action, a filing or an unconfirmed report requires a different information layer.

The platform can help organize that investigation. It does not remove the need to assess the source, compare the news with expectations or decide whether the available trading price still offers the setup you originally wanted.

The newsfeed: make relevance a deliberate choice

The official newsfeed guide describes searches combining tickers and keywords, category alerts, visual highlighting and display controls. These settings matter because a useful feed is selective enough to read while preserving the information relevant to your positions.

A focused watchlist feed and a broader discovery feed can serve different purposes. The first tracks companies you already understand. The second helps locate developing stories across the market. Keeping those purposes clear makes it easier to recognize why a headline deserves attention.

Read beyond the first line when the story affects a decision. An earnings headline may summarize one metric while guidance, revenue quality or management commentary changes the picture. A partnership announcement may omit commercial terms. A regulatory filing can require interpretation that a short alert cannot contain.

Also distinguish a new event from a new headline about an older event. The time a feed item appears is not always the time the underlying information first became public. Open the original release or filing when the chronology matters.

Audio squawk: useful when visual attention is limited

Benzinga’s squawk documentation describes a live audio stream of selected headlines and market updates. It distinguishes Equity Squawk from High Beta Squawk, with the latter requiring an additional purchase under the documented offering.

Audio is useful while you are watching charts or managing an existing position. It can call attention to an event without requiring continuous reading. The practical benefit is attention management, not a guarantee that every relevant event will be read before the market reacts.

Check the selected channel, current broadcast schedule, connection indicator and browser audio permissions. A connected stream can be silent between announcements; a disconnected stream requires a different response. Test the setup before relying on it during an active session.

Use a spoken headline to begin a check. Confirm the ticker, the source and the complete wording before treating it as a fully understood catalyst. Similar company names and rapidly developing stories can make a few spoken words insufficient.

Movers, scanners and signals answer different questions

The Benzinga Pro handbook describes tools for finding active stocks, scanning conditions and linking research widgets. A movers list identifies stocks already showing a chosen type of movement. A scanner narrows a universe using selected criteria. Neither necessarily explains why a symbol is moving.

Signals are event notifications rather than a recommendation to buy or sell. The Signals guide describes price spikes, block trades, halts, session highs and lows, and options activity. It distinguishes the configurable Signals tool from the smaller, filtered selection appearing in the newsfeed.

Begin with one event type and a defined universe. For example, a liquid-stock research list with a price-movement notification is easier to evaluate than alerts for every stock and every event. Adjust filters based on which notifications lead to useful investigation, not simply which setup produces more noise.

Options activity needs additional interpretation. A block or sweep may be part of a spread, hedge, roll or closing trade. Execution near the bid or ask is a transaction detail; by itself, it does not reveal the participant’s complete position or intent. Confirm whether options signals require a separate entitlement.

Quote labels are part of the research

The Nasdaq Basic help article explains the platform’s Nasdaq Basic quote source and distinguishes it from OTC quoting. It also notes that real-time OTC coverage is not guaranteed for every ticker.

A product displaying live stock quotes does not establish identical coverage for every exchange, asset or account tier. Read the label for the symbol you are researching, especially when moving from an exchange-listed company to an OTC name.

Compare timestamps before explaining a move with a headline. A delayed quote and a current news item can create a misleading sequence. A chart, a news timestamp and your broker’s execution feed may represent different observation times.

When the information becomes relevant to an order, check the current executable market in the trading platform. A research quote helps explain activity; the bid, ask, available liquidity and order behavior determine what can actually be executed.

Build a workspace that keeps the same ticker in view

The tool-linking documentation explains connecting widgets so a ticker selection updates other tools in the same link group. This can reduce repetitive searching when moving from a headline to company details and a chart.

That convenience requires an occasional visual check. Confirm the symbol shown in each panel before interpreting the combined workspace. A manually entered search, a different link group or an unlinked widget can leave two panels discussing different companies.

A compact layout is usually sufficient for an initial evaluation: a focused newsfeed, company details, a chart and one discovery tool. Add another panel only when it answers a recurring question that the existing layout cannot resolve efficiently.

Getting started

  1. Build one focused newsfeed. Enter the tickers and keywords you follow and choose relevant categories. Read one complete story and its timestamp to see how a headline leads to the underlying information.
  2. Link the research panels. Place company details and a chart beside the feed, then assign the relevant widgets to the same link group. Select a ticker and confirm that each linked panel changes to that company.
  3. Add one discovery tool. Choose a movers list, scanner or a single Signals event type that serves your process. Define its universe and inspect a few results before enabling a broader set of notifications.
  4. Test the audio service if included. Select the intended squawk channel, check its broadcast schedule and connection, and allow browser audio. Confirm any additional entitlement before choosing a separately purchased channel.

For the first session, record the catalyst and original publication time for a few investigated alerts. Reviewing ignored alerts as well helps reveal whether the initial feed settings capture the events that matter to your watchlist.

What to check before subscribing

The subscription-level guide lists differences in news access, filters, quote delivery, audio, scanners and other tools. Because plan names and inclusions can change, confirm the current comparison and any add-on charges before purchasing.

Benzinga Pro is most useful when news discovery is an actual bottleneck in your process. Evaluate whether it helps you locate a catalyst, verify its meaning and maintain a workable flow of information. More headlines are valuable only when they improve the questions you ask and the decisions you can explain.
